Publishing via FrontPage for Cobalt

Answers to questions you may have about Publishing your Web site with Microsoft's FrontPage on the Cobalt RaQ 4 web server.

Important! If you have a website with FrontPage Server Extensions, please do NOT try FTPing your content to your site! Please publish using FrontPage. Failure to do so may result in your site being corrupted.

NOTE: Approximately 8 MB of disk space is automatically used for each user that is given FrontPage extensions. This space is counted towards your available disk space. For specific information on How to use the FrontPage software, please consult the program's documentation or Microsoft Technical Support.

If FrontPage Server Extensions are enabled on a site, a Site Administrator can enable FrontPage User Webs.

To publish a Web page using FrontPage:

  1. Using FrontPage Explorer on a personal computer, select Open Web.

  2. In the Folder Name field, enter the following: http://(exactvirtualsitename).
If a user other than the site administrator wishes to publish pages to their personal space, the user John Smith would enter http://test130.cobalt.com/~jsmith/ (example)

  3. Click OK. An authentication dialog appears.

  4. For site administrators, enter webmaster as the user name, and the password assigned to the webmaster. For all other users, enter your user name and password assigned to you on the RaQ 4.

  5. Click OK.

FrontPage Server Extensions

When you enable FrontPage Server Extensions, a "webmaster" account is created and you must provide a password for the "webmaster" account. Note: This "webmaster" account does NOT have Web, email or FTP service. It is simply an account to use in the FrontPage client. Once the "webmaster" has authenticated through the FrontPage client, he or she can:

  • Manage FrontPage site Root Web subwebs

  • Add, modify or remove additional FrontPage user accounts

  • Change the "webmaster" password

Note: User webs cannot manage subwebs or FrontPage user accounts.
